OPEN REHEARSAL

5 / 9 / 25 – 26 / 9 / 25

Open Rehearsal is a solo exhibition featuring recent work by Fine Art Artist-in-Residence, Camila Aguais. A term used in dance and theatre, open rehearsal refers to a rehearsal that the public is able to view, inviting them into seeing the process of making unfold. The exhibition will show a variety of recent works in progress, including works on paper, artist books and performance work. Through a variety of media and approaches, the works demonstrate connections with dance and the choreographic. Rather than solely exhibiting finished works, the viewer is invited to observe the artist’s circuitous and responsive making process that moves fluidly between language, shape and body. Whether in drawing, print or live movement, visual and material conversations emerge between shape and space. Open Rehearsal explores the many ambiguous layers of meaning and resonance across words, gestures and forms.

About the Artist

Camila Aguais is a multidisciplinary artist and educator working across Surrey and West London. Drawing on her background in dance, her work includes works on paper, artist books, installation and performance that explore materiality, surface and gesture. Her work seeks to give space to the essential qualities of the materials while exploring the relationship between image and object. As a teacher and facilitator, she has worked with children through adults in various art programmes, workshops and residencies (locally and abroad). She has worked on a variety of community arts projects, that includes engaging children in deprived neighbourhoods, collaborating with local schools and artists, and working with children and adults with special needs. Camila’s multifaceted studio practice often intertwines with her teaching and community work, each strand influencing and enriching the other
